Kenya has this year been ranked second (2) in Conference Tourism in Africa by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) - a worldwide umbrella body for international Conferences and conventions.
The Country’s performance has gone up from third position in 2011 to second this year.
Kenya has been ranked second best in Africa for having hosted numerous International Association meetings in 2011 with Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) playing host to most of them.
Kenya is now second after South Africa and the only country in East Africa among the top five (5) Africa’s best performing destinations with Tanzania and Uganda clinching the 6th and 12th positions, respectively.
Globally, USA has been ranked first1st followed by Germany and Spain whereas Kenya took the 56th   position same ranking as Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Latvia.
This is a clear indicator that Conference Tourism in Kenya is rapidly growing if the county’s upward trend in global rankings is anything to go by.  This growth can be attributed to the Country’s state -of -the art conference facilities and services.
KICC plays a great role in packaging and marketing the destination as a Conference Tourism destination of choice.
However, the Country has immense potential that is yet to be fully exploited. Kenya has the power to establish itself as a Prime Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (M.I.C.E.) destination in International meetings market.
Ministry of Tourism has been allocated 10 acres of land in Mombasa and is seeking for development partners in constructing a Green Convention Center in tandem with other world recognized “Green” Convention Centres.
Plans are underway to expand and develop M.I.C.E. potential areas of Kisumu, Isiolo and Garissa.
ICCA is one of the most prominent organizations in the world of international meetings. It is the only association that comprises a membership representing the main specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events. Currently it enjoys membership from more than 900 companies in 86 countries.
