MICE Committee and Secretariat to boost Kenya’s Conference Tourism.
The Minister for Tourism Hon Najib Balala recently appointed an 11 member committee and Secretariat to spearhead the National Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibition (MICE), Kenya that will provide strategic direction and place Kenya as Africa’s Meetings destination of choice.
The committee chaired by Mr Les Baillie, Safaricom’s Chief Investment & Relations officer had their first meeting on 27th July 2010 to discuss the Terms of reference of the committee and the strategies to employ in order to increase the contribution of MICE to the Country’s GDP.

Recently the country was ranked fourth in Africa’s best MICE destination after South Africa, Egypt and Morocco, according to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) official ranking. Globally the Country scooped position 60 up from 623 in the year 2008.
For the Country to realize even better results, the Committee and Secretariat will put in place a MICE strategy that will enable Kenya compete with the leading convention Centres. Its office is located on the 1st floor of KICC |
